7. First United Methodist Church of Brownsville
we believe the following:
There is but one living and true God. In the unity of this Godhead there are three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father. He was both fully divine and fully human. He lived our lives, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.Christ did truly rise from the dead. He sits at the right hand of the Father and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
The Holy Scripture contained in the Old and New Testaments contains all things necessary for salvation. It is the inspired Word of God.
Humanity is sinful and we do not reach the glory of God. We all sin, and yet God’s love for us is endless. God’s love redeems us and makes us new. God sent his only Son Jesus Christ as a perfect example of God’s love, to teach us, heal us, offer us hope, die and rise again so that we may have new things and abundant life in his name.
The Holy Spirit is the Lord and giver of life, who spoke through the prophets and continues to work through God’s people to build the Kingdom of God.
The Kingdom of God is near. The kingdom of God is not just in some distant heaven, waiting for us after death. As we follow Jesus and his teachings, strengthened by the Holy Spirit, we live more in the kingdom of God, where God’s will is done on earth as it is in heaven.

9. Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
On December 4, 1849, four Oblate fathers of Mary Immaculate arrived in Brownsville on horseback to establish a local parish. Seven years later the first cornerstone of the Cathedral was laid. In 1859, the Church of the Immaculate Conception was completed, using 250,000 bricks hand-made as tithes by parishioners.
Designed by Father Pierre Y. Kerralum, who studied architecture in France before entering the seminary, the church is an excellent example of the neo-Gothic style. It served as the first Oblate seminary in Texas and housed priests fleeing the revolution in Mexico. The site became a cathedral in 1874 when the Vicariate Apostolic of Brownsville was established.
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is a historic church located at 1218 East Jefferson Street in Brownsville, Texas, United States. It is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brownsville. It was built in 1856 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 as the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
