4. Annunciation Catholic Church, Houston
Annunciation Catholic Church Annunciation grew out of the congregation of St. Vincent, Houston’s first Catholic church. In 1866, Father Joseph Querat and Galveston Bishop Claude M. Debuis believed the congregation was outgrowing the old building and began planning a new one.
The congregation chose the name for the planned building: “Church of the Annunciation.” The original architect is unknown, but it opened on September 10, 1871. Nicholas Clayton modified the building and added the twin bell towers in 1884.

5. St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Fredericksburg-TX
Beautiful old Catholic church. Not far from the main street. Easy to access and pleasant to walk and see. Next door is a smaller church, it was the original church. Very historic and beautiful glass work. This is one of 15 painted churches in Texas that was built around 1906 by German and Czech immigrants, and you’ll find inscriptions on the walls in their native language. The sheer beauty of this church is astonishing and a stunning example of Texas architecture.

6. St. Mary’s Church – Praha-TX
St. Mary of the Assumption Church is a historic church on FM 1295 in Praha, Texas. It was built in 1895 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Gottfried Flury, a Swiss-born artist from Moulton, TX, painted much of the interior.
This is one of the famous painted churches in Texas. It’s free to enter and admire the beautiful painting throughout the interior. This was remodeled/restored in 2016. One of the shrines outside is a memorial to some soldiers who died in World War II. This sanctuary is unique because some of the stones that built it are petrified wood.

St. Mary’s Cathedral is the cathedral parish of the Catholic Diocese of Austin located in Austin, Texas, United States. It was included in the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, as Saint Mary’s Cathedral. It is a beautiful church. The architecture is great. In October 1824, the Church of Santa María and the city of Victoria, Texas began when Don Martín De León took 41 Mexican families to a point on the lower Guadalupe River to found the colony of “Our Lady of Guadalupe de Jesús Victory”. One of his first acts was to erect a Catholic Church. Located on the Main and Church Street site of the current post office, the first church was built of logs and native wood.

The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Anthony in Beaumont, Texas, is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Beaumont. The cathedral was elevated to minor basilica status in 2006. This beautiful church in my hometown was built in 1903. I’ve been inside and can attest to the overwhelming splendor of the stained glass and Romanesque architecture. If you are ever in the city, you should definitely take a look inside or just admire the beauty from outside the walls.
